For adults who did not finish

Adult high school diploma, online

A high school diploma for adults, earned at your own pace without giving up the job or the life you already have. Credits you earned years ago may still count.

Who this is for

You left school. Years later, a form asked for a diploma.

The decision to finish high school online for adults is almost never about ability. Almost everyone who enrolls here left for a reason that had nothing to do with it — a job that could not wait. A pregnancy. A move. A parent who got sick. A school that was not working, and no adult in a position to fix it.

Then a decade passes and the missing diploma turns up as a checkbox on a job application, a prerequisite for a nursing program, or a line in a military recruiter's eligibility list. It stops being a regret and becomes a practical obstacle — which is, at least, the kind of problem that can be solved.

People arrive looking for a second chance high school diploma, or searching for how to go back to high school online without sitting in a classroom at 34. Both describe the same thing: an online diploma program for adults that counts the work you already did.

This page is about that solution: what it involves, what it costs, and the parts we cannot promise.

Age

Is 21, 30 or 55 too late to finish high school?

No, and there is no upper age limit at all. Enrollment is open to anyone 16 or older. There is no point at which the door closes.

People ask this in a lot of ways — a high school diploma for adults over 21, a high school diploma for adults over 18, or simply a high school diploma at any age. The answer does not change with the number. The only age rule that affects anything is at the other end: under 18, a parent or guardian completes part of the application with you.

What does change with age is what you are bringing. Someone who left in eleventh grade at 17 and returns at 45 still has those credits. They do not expire on this side.

Working, parenting, or both

Online high school while working full time

There are no class times. No live sessions, no lectures to attend, no group work that depends on other people's calendars, and no deadlines to miss.

This is the part that decides whether an adult actually finishes. People search for night school for adults online, or for evening high school classes for adults online, because that is the shape of the problem — the only free hours are after everyone else is asleep.

The honest answer is that there is no evening class here, because there is no class at all. Nothing starts at seven. Nothing is missed at nine. That is also what makes it workable as an online school for working parents: the coursework does not care whether you open it at 6am or after bedtime, and it is still there on the night you cannot.

The trade is real and worth naming: nothing external pushes you. A timetable is a nuisance, but it also drags people along. Without one, the discipline is yours. The people who finish are usually the ones who picked specific hours and defended them, not the ones who meant to find time.

How long it actually takes goes into what determines the timeline, and why no honest school quotes one up front.

The readiness checklist walks through that honestly, including what to do about the week you inevitably miss.

Credits you already have

Work you did before may still count

Graduating takes 24 credits. If you completed tenth and eleventh grade, a significant part of that is already done — the question is how much of it transfers. This is what separates a high school completion program for adults from starting over: an exam ignores your previous work, and a completion route counts it.

It also means you get your high school diploma online at home without commuting to a campus to redo material you already passed once.

Send whatever records you have. Official transcripts are strongest, but unofficial copies, portal printouts and old report cards are all enough to start a review. The academic team compares them against the graduation requirement and tells you in writing which credits carry across, usually within 2 to 5 business days.

Not having your records does not disqualify you. If your school closed, if your name has changed, if you studied in another country, or if you simply have no idea where anything is — those are ordinary situations with known routes, not dead ends. Seven record situations and what to do in each.

A planning estimate on published figures only. The academic team decides the actual credit count.

If you left before finishing

A high school diploma for adults who dropped out

Search results will offer you an online high school for dropouts, and the word does a lot of damage for something that usually describes a fourteen-year-old whose circumstances collapsed. Nobody here uses it about you.

What matters practically is that leaving early is not a penalty. There is no entrance exam, no minimum GPA and no requirement to explain yourself. The record of what you completed is an asset, and the work is finding it — not justifying it.

If your school has closed, or you have no paperwork at all, that is an ordinary situation with a known route. Start here.

Diploma or GED

Is an adult diploma an alternative to the GED?

Yes — a diploma is a genuine alternative to the GED for adults, and many people search for exactly that. But "better" depends entirely on who is asking you for it.

A GED is an equivalency exam. You prepare, you sit it, you pass, and you hold a certificate saying your skills are equivalent to a high school graduate's. It can be fast if you test well.

A diploma is awarded for completing coursework. It takes longer where you have few credits, and considerably less time where you already have many — because those count and an exam ignores them entirely.

So an online GED alternative is worth considering precisely when you already hold credits — because the exam route throws that work away and the diploma route banks it.

The deciding question is not which is superior in the abstract. It is what the specific employer, admissions office or recruiter in front of you will accept. Ask them, in writing, before you commit to either. A fuller comparison.

What it costs

What does an online adult diploma cost?

The published maximum to earn a high school diploma online here is $994. That covers all digital course materials, student support and platform access. There is no application fee and no charge to have your records reviewed.

Every accepted transfer credit reduces that by $30. Someone arriving with substantial credit pays materially less than someone starting from the beginning, which is why the review comes before the invoice. It is worth comparing any adult diploma program online on that basis rather than on the headline price alone.

Payment plans are available, and the full schedule — including what happens if you withdraw — is on tuition and payment plans. Confirm current figures with us in writing before you pay anything.

Common questions

Questions adults ask before enrolling

Is there an age limit for an adult high school diploma?

There is no upper age limit. Enrollment is open to anyone 16 or older. Adults at 25, 40 and 60 enroll for the same reason — a job, a college application or a training program asked for a diploma they never finished.

The only age rule that changes anything: if you are under 18, a parent or guardian completes part of the application with you.

Can I do this while working full time?

Yes, and this is the main reason adults choose it. There are no fixed class times, no live sessions to attend and no deadlines to miss. There is nothing scheduled, so a late shift or a sick child does not put you behind.

That also answers the question people ask as "night school" or "evening classes": there is no evening class, because there is no class. You open the coursework when you have an hour, and close it when you run out.

I dropped out. Does that count against me?

No. It is the ordinary reason people are here, not an exception we make room for.

What matters is what you completed before you left, because that work may still count. Send whatever records you have and the academic team compares them against the 24-credit requirement.

How is this different from a GED?

A GED is an equivalency test — you sit an exam and pass it. A high school diploma is awarded for completing coursework, and previously earned credits can count toward it.

Neither is universally better. The question that decides it is what the employer, college or recruiter asking for the qualification will actually accept — ask them before you commit to either route. The full comparison is here.

What does an adult diploma cost?

The published maximum is $994, which covers all course materials, student support and platform access. Every accepted transfer credit takes $30 off that figure.

Your actual cost is not knowable until your records are reviewed. Anyone who quotes you a final number before seeing your transcripts is guessing. Tuition and payment plans.

How long does it take?

It depends on two things: how many of the 24 credits you still need, and how often you can sit down with it.

We are not going to quote you a number before we have seen your records, and you should treat any school that does with suspicion. Once your credit review is done, you will have a real answer instead of a sales figure.
